Sacred Legends
Milarepa's Victory
The 11th-century Tibetan yogi Milarepa meditated in a cave near Kailash. When challenged by a Bon priest to race to the summit, Milarepa flew there at sunrise, proving the power of Buddhist practice. His cave remains a sacred site today.
Gesar King's Horse Tracks
The legendary Tibetan hero Gesar King left hoof prints on Kailash's cliffs during his epic campaigns. These marks are still visible, reminding pilgrims of the divine protection granted to those with pure hearts.
The 108 Bodies of Compassion
At Drolma La pass, pilgrims leave clothing and personal items as offerings. This symbolizes leaving behind attachments and negative karma. The tradition represents the 108 forms of compassion practiced by bodhisattvas.
